STCC to offer evening phlebotomy for healthcare workers course in July

 Springfield Technical Community College will offer an evening Phlebotomy for Healthcare Workers course beginning July 12.

The course will run July 12 through Aug. 30 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 5 p.m.-9 p.m.

The 60-hour training, which is designed for individuals licensed in various medical fields, prepares students to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) exam to become a certified phlebotomist in Massachusetts. The NHA exam is scheduled for Aug. 31 at 2 p.m.

Prospective students should have current certifications in at least one, but not limited to, the following healthcare roles:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • Patient Care Technician (PCT)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Certified Electrocardiogram Technician (CET)
  • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA)
Students in the noncredit course will learn to perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to obtain blood specimens for diagnostic procedures. STCC’s Workforce Development Center is offering the class.
