Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stopped by the new Big Y Express in downtown Springfield to check out the new grocery store for our downtown neighborhood.

Mayor Sarno states, “For decades the city has strived to bring a grocery store to our downtown neighborhood area.  I am proud that my administration has been able to accomplish this initiative, working with our iconic Big Y, to enhance more amenities for our downtown residents and businesses.  I want to thank the well-respected Big Y and D’Amour family for their continued belief and investment in our Springfield.  They’re great corporate citizens.”

“The feedback from stopping in to check it out has been simply tremendous.  Residents came up and thanked me.  They are thrilled to be able to now have a place where they can purchase their groceries and our downtown workers have a place to grab a quick lunch and other needs for their respective offices and business locations.  This development project is a huge win for our City!” said Mayor Sarno  “I was also happy to see that some of the workers at the Big Y Express Downtown were downtown residents too.  This project continues to be a major boost for our city, creating more of that good four-letter word – JOBS!”
