Student-to-teacher ratio in Springfield International Charter District rose in 2021-22 school year

The ratio of students to teachers in Springfield International Charter District rose by 40.4% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 1,519 students being taught by 59.1 teachers in Springfield International Charter District, which covers schools within Hampden County and has a main office in Springfield. That's an average of 25.7 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Springfield International Charter District had 1,557 students and 85.3 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

Massachusetts was ranked as the eighth best state for teachers, according to a WalletHub study.
