In 2021-22 school year 78% of Holyoke Community Charter District students failed the English portion of MCAS

Of the 450 students who took part in the MCAS, 78% did not meet the testing standard in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

These students did not meet the required standards of the English Language Arts portion of the MCAS, compared to the 23% who did.

The number of Holyoke Community Charter District students who failed their English Language Arts assessments fell by 2.8% from the previous school year.

Holyoke Community Charter District roughly covers schools within Hampden County and has a main office in Holyoke.

In the 2021-22 school year, 400,101 students took the English Language Arts test in Massachusetts with 78% students failing, 10.1% more than the year before.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's 2022 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS), the average scale score for grade 10 English Language Arts was 503, which met the expectation level, while the average scale score for grade 10 Science was 499, which only partially met the expectation level.

The results of the spring 2022 MCAS examinations were mixed, with declines in ELA scores and gains in Math and Science scores since 2021. Overall results indicate a need for improvement as compared to pre-pandemic levels.
