Hampden Charter School of Science East District: Hispanic or Latino students were most represented ethnicity in 2022-23 school year

Hispanic or Latino was the most represented ethnicity among Hampden Charter School of Science East District students in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

In total, there were 225 Hispanic or Latino students enrolled, accounting for 41% of the district's student body.

The number of Hispanic or Latino students attending schools in the district increased 3.7% over the previous school year.

Meanwhile, American Indian or Alaska Native students were the least represented ethnic group within the schools in Hampden Charter School of Science East District.

Hampden Charter School of Science East District roughly covers schools within Hampden County, and has a main office in Chicopee.

The total number of students attending the district’s schools fell to 549 over the 2022-23 school year.

Students in Massachusetts are predominantly white, according to state data from 2023-24, representing 53% of the state's student body.

Across the state, Hispanic and Latino students saw the highest high school dropout rates.

Under representation is also found among educators in Massachusetts. The Rennie Center reported that only 7.8% of teachers identified as people of color in 2022.
