In 2023-24 school year 65.0% of Chicopee Public Schools District students failed the Science portion of MCAS

Of the 1,471 students who took part in the Science portion of the MCAS, 65% scored below proficiency in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

In comparison, 31.4% met the subject benchmarks and 3.6% exceeded them.

The number of Chicopee Public Schools District students who failed their Science assessments fell by 5.3% from the previous school year.

Chicopee Public Schools District roughly covers schools within Hampden County and has a main office in Chicopee.

In the 2023-24 school year, 199,813 students took the Science test in Massachusetts with 55.6% failing the exam, 2.8% less than the year before.

According to a 2025 analysis from WalletHub, Massachusetts education system was considered the best in the nation, based on factors such as class size, student performance, funding, school safety, and teacher qualifications.
