In 2023-24 school year 68.9% of Westfield Public Schools District students failed the Science portion of MCAS

Of the 1,087 students who took part in the Science portion of the MCAS, 68.9% scored below proficiency in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

In comparison, 29% met the subject benchmarks and 2.1% exceeded them.

The number of Westfield Public Schools District students who failed their Science assessments rose by 3.3% from the previous school year.

Westfield Public Schools District roughly covers schools within Hampden County and has a main office in Westfield.

In the 2023-24 school year, 199,813 students took the Science test in Massachusetts with 55.6% failing the exam, 2.8% less than the year before.

According to a 2025 analysis from WalletHub, Massachusetts education system was considered the best in the nation, based on factors such as class size, student performance, funding, school safety, and teacher qualifications.
